The Facts

Wayne State University is a rather large, public institution located in the city of Detroit, Michigan, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 24,000 students. The university's Law School, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 725 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is fairly rare for any of the students to enroll in the school directly after their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its wonderful research resources, its large amount of internship, externship, and clerkship opportunities available, as well as for its emphasis on practical legal skills. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, the 1 year LLM, as well as combined degrees in the JD/MBA, the JD/MA in history, and political science, as well as the JD/MADR. Some of the most popular programs include courses in the areas of civil procedure, criminal law, advocacy, as well as international law.

Admission to Wayne State University's Law School is fairly competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 974 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 457 of those students were accepted. Students at the Law School don't seem terribly nervous about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 93% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within the first few months of receiving their degree, and had an average starting salary of about $70,800. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as various leading law firms within the state of Michigan, as well as the legal departments of businesses and corporations throughout the country.
