The Facts

Lewis-Clark State College is a small, public institution located in the town of Lewiston, Idaho, that is now part of the Idaho Higher Education system, although it has been around since the year 1893. The school is home to over 2,000 undergraduate students and approximately 1,250 graduate and part-time professional students who are able to study in one of the eight undergraduate schools or the gradute school. The schools offer academic divisions in the areas of the arts and sciences, business, education, nursing, and preprofessional and technical training. These academic divisions offer a wide array of majors in the areas of biological science, business, communications and the arts, computer and physical science (which includes great programs in geology and natural science), education, health professions, and social sciences (which includes a unique program in physical fitness and movement studies). Lewis-Clark State College offers its students a pretty varied platter of majors in both the liberal arts and preprofessional studies; some of the most popular choices include education, business, psychology, and nursing.

Admission to Lewis-Clark State College has been getting more and more competitive as the years go on, and the number of out-of-state students applying has been increasing as well. Last year, over 1,000 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 800 of those students were accepted; of those, about 560 matriculated. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 990 to 1060, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 19 to 25. Additionally, more than 48% of the admitted students were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about a 3.3.

Lewis-Clark State College has a manageable student to faculty ratio of 17:1, and the majority of classes are held in seminars with no more than twenty students. Students rave about their professors, saying they are wonderful at facilitating engaging discussions and encouraging students to make their opinions and voices heard.

The Social Scene

The town of Lewiston itself is surprisingly urban, and really quite quaint. In recent years, it has carved out an identity closely linked with the school, and students love the town right back. There are plenty of little shops, cafes, and bars that are quite popular with students. We hear that a car is a necessity when it comes to getting around, although many students have made an eco-friendly switch to bikes recently. The university has no fraternities or sororities, but students seem to be totally ambivalent to their absence. Lewis-Clark is definitely not classified as a wild party school, and the students seem to prefer it that way. Instead, they hang out in small groups, or get involved with one of the schools 46 student groups and organizations.

The dating scene is reportedly very friendly; people are happy to date you, whoever you are!

“I really wish our party scene was more happening; I think it would really help to bring the campus together.”

“The classes are so small that you literally cannot afford to miss even one class. Your professors will know right away.”

“I wish we had a big city near us. Spokane is about 100 miles, but it’s really not that exciting of a place anyway.”
