Medical College of Wisconsin Application
The Facts
The Medical College of Wisconsin is a rather small, private institution located in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is not affiliated with a large college or institution. The school is home to about 805 graduate medical students; the average age of enrollment is around 23, and it is fairly rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its extensive clinical programs as well as for its emphasis on the doctor-patient relationship. Aside from the basic MD degree, the school also offers joint degrees in the MD/MS, the MD/MA, the MSTP, as well as the average MD/PhD in the areas of bioethics, biostatistics, biochemistry, biophysics, cellular biology, medical informatics, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, as well as physiology.
Admission to the Medical College of Wisconsin is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 4,827 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 486 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 206 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had average MCAT scores of about 10.0 in Biology, 10.0 in Physics, and 9.7 in Verbal, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.7. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and are able to take advantage of the school's early application program if they so choose.
The Medical College of Wisconsin has 1,100 total faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. The school also boasts a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 12:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of interaction and discussion between students and their professors.
Graduates of the Medical College of Wisconsin are often accepted into the most prestigious residency programs in the nation, and frequently specialize in the areas of family medicine, internal medicine, as well as psychiatry.
