Temple University Application
The Facts
Temple University is a large public university located in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is home to over 19,000 undergraduate students and over 10,700 graduate students. It is a world-renowned research institution and includes research facilities for medicine, biology and aerospace. The university is comprised of several smaller undergraduate colleges including the College of Allied Health Professions, the Tyler School of Arts and the Richard J. Fox School of Business and Management. The university offers over 125 majors in a
wide range of interests. Some of the most popular with students include majors in elementary and early childhood education, journalism, psychology, biology, and marketing. The school is also known for a great film and media production program and several fine arts programs.
Admission to Temple is quite a bit more competitive than other large state schools. Last year, over 16,758 students applied and 10,058 were admitted. Eventually, however, only 3,606 students actually enrolled
for the coming fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging fro, 980 to 1100 and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 20 to 24. Over 50% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of approximately 3.25.
Temple has a manageable student to faculty ratio of 12:1, and students say that while the introductory classes are large, professors do make themselves relatively available during office hours. Many members of
the faculty are currently doing research of their own, which gives students plenty of opportunities to help out with various projects in the so-called “real world.” There are many fabulous medical institutions in Philadelphia, and internships are constantly available.
The Social Scene
The city of Philadelphia ensures that students are never bored. There are world-class museums, restaurants, bars, clubs and performing arts venues. Not many students actually live on campus, and Temple has long
been known as a primary commuter school, but more and more students are moving on campus, even though housing isn’t guaranteed for anyone. Students say there is plenty of affordable housing throughout Philly.
There are fraternities and sororities at Temple, but students say that they don’t really throw boisterous parties; instead, they set up larger fundraising events for the entire university, including faculty.
Temple has hundreds of student-run organizations and even sports teams. There are however varsity sports, including the extremely popular Owl basketball team who are members of the NCAA Division I. They play in a 10,200 seat stadium, and the games are popular with students and residents alike.
The dating scene offers something for everyone; Temple is known for its extreme amount of diversity.
