The Facts

Trinity University is a rather moderately sized, private school affiliated with the Presbyterian church located in the city of San Antonio, Texas, and is home to over 2,500 undergraduate students and approximately 225 graduate and part-time professional students. The university is perhaps best known for having all of the resources of a large state school, while maintaining an intimate, intellectual environment. Students are encouraged to be hands-on participants in their own education, and there are many research and internship opportunities available to students in all academic programs. The school offers three undergraduate diplomas including bachelors of arts, sciences, as well as music. Trinity offers its students more than 26 undergraduate majors within these three degrees, however, some of the most popular with students include majors in the areas of business administration, political science, computer science, modern languages and literature, as well as economics.

Admission to Trinity University is not terrifically competitive numerically, however, the number of highly qualified and academically successful students has been sharply rising with each passing admissions cycle. Last year, more than 4,000 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 2,400 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 640 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1220 to 1380, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 27 to 31. Additionally, over 81% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about 3.5.

Trinity University has an outstanding student to faculty ratio of about 10:1, and it is rare to find an undergraduate class with more than 20 students, and the classes can even be as small as 10. In general, professors get rave reviews from students when it comes to accessibility and willingness to help students out whenever they may need it. The core curriculum is well rounded, and students are required to take courses in the areas of writing, foreign language, computer skills, math, Western culture, and even physical education.

The Social Scene

The city of San Antonio, Texas offers students all the amenities of a cosmopolitan area, including restaurants, coffee shops, bars, museums and performances. Additionally, the tourist attractions of Sea World, Six Flags, and the San Antonio Zoo are nearby, and offer students the occasional touristy indulgence. We also hear that the nearby beaches and also Mexico are popular weekend road trip options.

There are a fair amount of fraternities and sororities at Trinity University, and they pretty much govern the on campus social life. Drinking is definitely a popular mode of social interaction, and most students drink their weekends away as a way to forget the past stress of the academic week.

The dating scene is hardly diverse; expect a lot of buttoned up conservative types who may just take you on a date to the nearest church.

What’s Good

“The research opportunities are a terrific way to get experience before you head out into the real world, and you can connect with some brilliant professors.”

“The campus is really beautiful, and the gardens and landscaping are some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.”

What’s Bad

“There are a lot of really close-minded conservative people here, and it can be difficult if you lead a kind of liberal lifestyle.”

“The partying can be a bit much; it’s pretty tricky to get any work done, particularly on the weekends”
