Trinity College Application
The Facts
Trinity College is a rather small, private, traditional liberal arts school located in the city of Hartford, Connecticut, and is home to over 2,000 undergraduate students and approximately 185 graduate and part-time professional students. The school is perhaps best known for combining a traditional liberal arts education with interdisciplinary studies in unique areas such as Asian studies, American studies, as well as a terrific women’s studies program. The school even offers students an engineering program, a hard to find program at most small liberal arts schools. The academics are rigorous, and students are required to take extensive general education requirements, including courses in English language and literature, foreign language, natural sciences, math, and many more. Trinity College offers its students a wide variety of over 35 undergraduate majors in many different areas of discipline, however, some of the most popular with students include majors in the areas of political science, economics, English, history, as well as psychology.
Admission to Trinity College is extremely competitive, and the number of highly qualified and academically successful applicants increases steadily with each passing admissions cycle. Last year, more than 5,510 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 2,000 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 550 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1210 to 1410, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 25 to 29. Additionally, over 81% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about 3.8.
Trinity College has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 10:1, and it is rare to find any undergraduate class with more than 20 students. Students say they feel as though their professors truly care about them, both academically and personally, and most of the professors get high marks in terms of accessibility and willingness to help students out when they may need it.
The Social Scene
The city of Hartford, Connecticut may not be a very large city, but it offers students plenty in the way of entertainment. There are plenty of bars, clubs, cafes, shops, and restaurants to keep their weekends quite filled, and that combined with the plentiful on campus social life ensures that Trinity students will never be bored.
There are several fraternities and sororities on campus, and more than 25% of the student body belongs to a Greek organization. Partying is definitely the way to unwind after a long academic week, and drinking is the main mode of social interaction. Some upperclassmen prefer to hit the town, but be careful, as most bars and clubs are very rigid when it comes to carding.
The dating scene is very vibrant and very much alive. The student body is very diverse, and you can be assured that there is a match for everyone.
What’s Good
“The classes are really small, and you always can participate in discussions and really contribute to the mood of a class.”
“Not only does the school offer an amazing liberal arts curriculum, but there are some really nifty interdisciplinary programs as well.”
“The campus is great, and all of the buildings are very old and very European. It’s a really pleasant atmosphere.”
What’s Bad
“Hartford is kind of boring, and although it may be a city, there are a pretty limited amount of things to do.”
“If you aren’t a member of the Greek scene, you can begin to feel like a bit of a social outcast.”
“I get really sick of frat parties. The Greeks tend to be really annoying, and think they just own the entire school.”
