The Facts
The University of Evansville is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Evansville, Indiana, and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The school is home to over 2,200 undergraduate students and approximately 200 graduate and part-time professional students who are able to take courses in one of the university’s 4 undergraduate or 1 graduate schools. The schools offer academic programs in the areas of the arts and sciences, business administration, education, engineering, computing sciences, the fine arts, as well as nursing and health sciences. These academic divisions offer broad majors in the areas of biological science, business, (a large program with majors as diverse as accounting and international business management) communications and the arts, (which includes a fabulous theater program) computer and physical science, (home to a popular program in computer programming) education, engineering and environmental design, health professions, (a large program offering majors in unique areas such as exercise science and sports medicine) as well as the social sciences. The University of Evansville offers its students a remarkably wide variety of majors in both the liberal arts and sciences as well as preprofessional studies, however, some of the most popular with students include majors in the areas of theater, physical therapy, engineering, health sciences, as well as psychology.
Admission to the University of Evansville is extremely competitive among the relatively few students who apply. Last year, over 2,300 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 2,015 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 665 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1130 to 1200, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 25 to 32. Additionally, more than 85% of the admitted students were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about a 3.8.
The University of Evansville has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 14:1, and many students agree that one of the best parts of attending the schools is the small class sizes. Professors also get high marks from students in terms of accessibility and willingness to help students out when they may need it.
The Social Scene
The town of Evansville is more like a burgeoning city, and offers students all the typical amenities and conveniences of that type of area, including restaurants, movie theaters, even museums. The town is also about a two hours drive from the city of Louisville, and many students take mini road trips into the city on the weekends. The university is home to 10 national fraternities and sororities which are quite popular with students and basically govern on campus social life.
The dating scene is surprisingly diverse, and fortunately attractive...
