The school is large, housing around 15,066 undergraduates as well as about 6,016 graduate students.
The undergraduate colleges include schools of business, education, engineering, health, humanities, and earth sciences, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, science, and social and behavorial sciences. They also have a renowned research center that focuses on an amazing array of scientific projects including petroleum research, biomedical optics and many more.
General education requirements include a mandatory two courses in two classes in each of the following areas: fine arts, humanities, social sciences, life sciences, writing, American institutions, quantitative reasoning and diversity. Some of the most popular majors at the school include business, communications, psychology, political science and biology. Admission is nearly guaranteed to all who apply; last year 5,842 students applied and 5,036 were admitted, however eventually 2,653 enrolled. The Class of 2004 had an average combined ACT score ranging from 22 to 26 and around 49% of admitted students were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class.
The Social Scene
Salt Lake City is probably best known as the home of the Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints, which has an extremely strict conservative reputation, however, many students will be pleased to find that Salt Lake City does have more exciting options. Many amazing mountains are located nearby and offer some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the country. Many students have cars so they can access the many outdoor activities.
The student body is not particularly diverse, however most students say that the students are quite active and friendly. Greek life is quite popular with over 10% of students belonging to some sort of Greek organization. They clearly dominate the social scene and have many parties and host multiple yearly fundraising events.
As far as dating goes, the school has a lot of highly conservative Mormon guys and gals that can’t even drink caffeine let alone date until they are 30.
